Barley Banana Bowl: 3B

Happy Thursday!!

christmas-cats

It is now officially only 7 working days to go (including this one) and 13 days till Christmas. Can you believe it? (Don’t worry I think I’ve got enough cat pictures to get you all the way there)

I am very much already feeling like I want to be in holiday mode already…like NOW.

Moving right along, when I did the breakfast challenge I became pretty obsessed with barley for breakfast and I promised to share with you this below recipe, it took longer than it probably should have, so sorry about that.

This recipe is perfect for a cold day, as it warms you up.

Side note it is meant to be summer here in Melbourne and we have been having very consistent rain instead, very odd.

Anyway here is the recipe:

BarleyBreakfastBowl

Barley Banana Bowl: 3B

Serves: 1

Ingredients:

1/2 Banana (or 1 small, I used a large one)
1/3 Cup Cooked Barley*
1 tsp Honey
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 Cup Almond Milk

Toppings: I used shredded coconut, sliced almonds and dried cranberries but any dried fruit, nuts or seeds would work well.

Directions:
1. In a microwave safe bowl mash banana
2. Add in barley, honey, cinnamon and almond milk and mix well
3. Microwave for 1.5 minutes (cooking time will depend on your microwave but just cook till it is hot).
4. Place whatever toppings you desire on top.
5. Enjoy!

I will be linking this on Friday with CandyFit’s Recipe Friday.

Have you tried barley for breakfast yet?

Have you got the whole count down to Christmas happening too?

It’s insanely warm where I’m at. I love the rain so maybe you wanna swap places? Have a good Thursday! :)

Oh and I’ve been meaning to ask, do you have a pet cat for yourself? Hahaha.

Yes please! I much prefer the warm to the cold.

Unfortunately not that’s why I post so many cat pics, I am deprived ;)

It always throws me off at first when I read your blog posts and you’re a day ahead of me (in the US). Today I was like “wait a minute…I thought it was Wednesday” haha Anyway, this recipe looks SO good but unfortunately, I can’t eat barley (dang gluten intolerance). Maybe I could make this with quinoa instead?

Lol I seem to do that for a few people ;)

It is funny as I can’t have quinoa as I’m allergic. It would probably work well with it, maybe with quinoa flakes?

I can’t wait for Christmas so I’m counting down since about September ;-) Yesterday I was a little confused ant thought Christmas was already next week. You can understand my disappointment when I remembered there was a nother work week to go!
I’ve never eaten barley (at least not that I know) but your recipe sounds delicious. I am getting a little bored with the oatmeal so I will hunt down some barley and give it a try. It looks and sounds very good and seems like the perfect breakfast for the German wintertime. Your cat pictures are so adorable! I am making screenshots and sending them to my aunt. She loves them :-)
    Have a wonderful day :-)

Lol counting down since September? Wow love it!! :)

I definitely recommend giving barley a go it has a great chew factor :)

I love my cat pictures, since I can’t have a cat in our apartment I am making good use of all the cat pictures I find instead.

Hope you had a nice weekend.

In answer to your question: no I have yet to try the barley brekky, it’s going to go on my list to make, but first I need to get my act together with the grain-free English muffin from yesterday ;)

Do you find that blogging sometimes gives you the urge to make everything that you see a post on? I’m guilty as charged – that and I’m also distracted by shiny things :)

PS Alliterative titles for posts always make me smile like a Cheshire cat :D

Always! I always have too many things on my list to try that I forget what is on it and go back to things I’ve already tried. All the shiny things! ;)

      Hehe good!

Can’t say I’ve ever had barley before. Your recipe looks delicious though. I’ll have to look for it tomorrow while were at the grocery store.

To answer your question: I actually don’t count down the days until Christmas. I am counting down to our anniversary on the 27th though – so I guess I am counting now that I’m thinking about it? Ha Ha!

Thanks again for all your help this morning. <3
